Pre-Christmas Parties and Dinners
This year three local areas held their end of year celebrations before Christmas and another two
areas are holding theirs in January.
South Midlands Area
The South Midlands area held a very good lunch at the attractive Amberley Arms just outside Stroud in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside. To quote Paul's words “This MUST be the way! It is up a steep hill!" When the main A46 was left behind for a narrow uphill lane we knew we were rapidly approaching our Christmas lunch.
The lunch was a great success with a few Armstrongs venturing out in what was a beautiful sunny December day.
Southern Area
The Southern area held both a party night and also an Evening Dinner this year. The party night
was quite a jolly affair in a golf club bar with the main competition being a mince pie baking competition which was won this year by Margaret Campbell (see recent news article). As you can see, the judges took their task most seriously.
The Southern area Dinner was held at their usual venue of Chobham Golf Club and was very well attended by about 40 people. The dinner was a semi-formal function with many men in dinner jackets and the ladies all looked great in their finery. There were five tables of eight people and each table had a raffle for which the prizes were cheeseboards. The evening was truly a great success and for anyone wishing to join in next year they are already taking bookings!
The Southern area organisers wish to remind everyone that the first event of next year is the annual meet on New Years Day at Silvermere at 12 noon.
Kent and Sussex Area
As in previous years, the Kent and Sussex area held their Christmas Lunch at the Bannatyne Spa Hotel in Hastings and in the words of John the organiser “about 18 people enjoyed this popular
event and the food, service and company were excellent."
